As you know, strong winds can result in lights going out at the pools.
To get ready (just in case power goes out):
Cell Phone Flashlight: Keep your cell phone near you in the pool so you can use the flashlight function.
Flashlights: If you prefer, each pool has a flashlight. Please take this flashlight out of the first aid kit (test to make sure batteries work and that the flashlight turns on) and keep it near you in the pool.
Specific School Instructions: Click the location buttons below to be taken to the specific information needed for the school you're at.
Emergency Lights: All Pools have emergency lights that are supposed to come on when the hotel loses power. They should look something like the images to the right.
If the power goes out and the emergency lights DO come on: Read the instructions below for the school you're at, and finish your current lesson (as the power often comes back after a few minutes).
If the power goes out and the emergency lights DON’T come on: Use the flashlight and get your kids safely out of the pool and away from the water and wrap them in their towels, then read the instructions below for the school you're at.
This would be in the case of a weekend where we have morning and evening lessons, or if a hotel informs us of a power outage in the morning before we have lessons (Mon-Fri).
If possible, move the evening classes to another school regardless of the situation. If power comes back with enough notice for the coaches and parents, move lessons back to WR.
Check BC Hydro regularly to look for updates about restored power (don't wait for the hotel to contact us, they have their own guests to manage through the outage).
Call Clo's personal phone. She will then likely advise that you finish the current lesson.
Check BC Hydro's website for the estimated time until power is restored. Most outages only last a few minutes.
If the estimated time for power to come back is not reasonable (1+ hours): Cancel classes for the rest of the night.
If the estimated time for power to come back on is within 1 hour: Coach should hang tight, and admin will cancel only the next class and wait for the power to come back (cancel class-by-class, on a case-by-case basis).
When power is not restored quickly, or is not estimated to be restored within a reasonable amount of time, lessons must be cancelled as the recirculation system is no longer operating.

If the lesson is not almost over (i.e. 30-45 min left in the lesson), the office will text parents to come pick up their kids.

In September 2020, a new company installed a new heating system for the pool, and when the power goes out, there's a chance the pool won't heat up properly, so we need to ensure we monitor it when the power comes back on to make sure the pool comes up to temperature (or maintains temperature, in the event of a quick outage).

The initial crew that arrived and assessed the problem needed different equipment, which typically means they need heavy equipment, materials like new poles, or additional personnel, and the new crew that would have these items has not been assigned yet. This means that a new crew needs to be assigned, reach the source of the outage, and repair it. It is likely power will not be restored for over 1-2 hours in this instance.
